The Rob Harris Leeds match.

Absolutely diabolical display of refereeing at best and the most blatant case of match fixing ever at worst.

Wasn't even reported much at the time either.

Re: Your worst Match at the Boleyn?
League Cup 2nd leg semi-final v Stoke City 1972. We only need a draw to reach the final. With 20 mins to go, we go 0-1 down. With 3 mins left we are awarded a penalty. Geoff Hurst doesn't miss pens, does he?
He thumps it where he always does, high to keeper's right. They all know that's where he aims, but usually they cannot get close to it anyway. Bloody Gordon Banks pulls off the save of his career (better than his save v Brazil, he will say).
Two replays later, we are finally beaten.
Definitely not the worst match for excitement, but the worst disappointment.

The list is to long
Personally the whole bond scheme season....
Now that was ducking depressing...puts our current/ position into context.

1-2 at home to Leicester.

Early season as I recall.

Re: Your worst Match at the Boleyn?
So many I've decided not to take part, but generally those defeats in Div II when we had players like Newell in our team and looked so inept I couldn't see a way back to being a top team again. Always makes me laugh when we lost under Allardyce and people said it was 'the worst team they'd ever seen' - you seen some of those sides of the 90's?.

Fuck me showing my age here 2-8 to Blackburn on boxing day 11oclock kick off ruined Christmas and then typical us we beat them 3-1 at their ground three days later.

Re: Your worst Match at the Boleyn?
I think the Forest game was New Year's Day rather than Boxing Day not helped by it being about -5. I have a feeling we had Steve Jones and Mike Newall up front that day.

Re: Your worst Match at the Boleyn?
That 1-0 against forest on Boxing Day when they were bott and couldn't buy a win. Snowing and shit.

The quarter final against arsenal. We were brilliant that night but those cunts hung on to penalties. You knew samassi the gangling spacker would miss

Re: Your worst Match at the Boleyn?
Another one for the 3-4 against Wimbledon at home.

Had never left a game early, haven't since, but it was the fact that at the time, if I remember correctly, we had won our opening 3 games, playing some sublime stuff, then going 3 up after no time, for the first time for me anyway, I envisaged a stab at winning the league in my head.

The worst thing was, as soon as they got the first, just before HT, the feeling of euphoria completely went, and the feeling in the crowd was a sense of the inevitable to come.

Going out to Arsenal on pens a close second.

Re: Your worst Match at the Boleyn?
The other set of games that really stank were those that took place around and during the pathetic bond scheme proposals.

This all had little to do with performances, but they were a set of home games when it was obvious that the club was not listening to its fans in any way whatsoever.

Dark days, for me.

Re: Your worst Match at the Boleyn?
Losing 5-2 at home to Barnsley in the Littlewoods Cup in 1987 always sticks in the memory, for some reason.

I just remember the appalling capitulation and the general air of discontent.

Re: Your worst Match at the Boleyn?
I remember feeling thoroughly demoralised after a 0-4 home defeat v Liverpool in the 70's. Toshack & Keegan destroyed us that day and it made me realise just how far behind we were the best teams in the league.

West Ham Utd 7 - Leeds 0 League Cup night match

It was so boringly one-sided I almost felt sorry for dirty leeds!

Thought I'd add that to cheer everyone up on this thread

There have been so many stinkers I've managed to wipe from my memory banks

FA Cup Replay v Sunderland 1992 : 2-3

Perhaps not the worst game of football, in fact for the neutrals it was a classic, but I was gutted after this.

We all run the gauntlet of Roker Park on the previous Saturday and got away with a draw. Then found out with a win in the replay we'd be at the Bridge to face Chelsea in the QF...surely we'd get through against 2nd division opposition ....cue a typical West Ham....

Losing 4-3 to Wimbledon at home 98/99 season.

Go three nil up and a real carnival atmosphere...then ruddock and Margas proceed to get ruined by Ekoku, Leaburn and Gayle!!

Dynamo Tiblisi went on to win ECWC that year in front of a bumper crowd of 4,750 in Duuseldorf.

They were eliminated from this year's Europa League in the first qualifying round by a team from Azerbaijan. So we are far superior to them these days.

Re: Your worst Match at the Boleyn?
Alongside the worthy nominations on here I'd also pick out Oxford at home early 87.

Lost 0-1 in front of 15,000 or so. Players looked completely disinterested and lethargic.

We all knew then that the previous seasons exploits and highs were well and truly over and we were back to the routine relegation fighting dross.
